Aamir turns out in support for Hazare

Bollywood star Aamir Khan on Saturday urged Anna Hazare to end his fast in support of a strong anti-corruption legislation, saying the 74-year-old was needed for future battles against graft.

“I am concerned (about his health). I am sure all of you are also worried about Anna's health,” the actor told the thousands gathered at the Ramlila ground in New Delhi.

“I feel this struggle will go on for a long time. We need Anna for this struggle,” he added, speaking from the stage where Hazare was seated. “My request to him: please end this fast.”

Before concluding his speech, Aamir turned to Hazare and said: “Please consider my request seriously.” The actor also pledged his support to the Jan Lokpal Bill framed by Hazare and his team.

“It is natural that Parliament will alone pass it.The people of India are looking at their MPs,” he said.

Default With your permission, I will end my fast: Hazare

Around 8 pm on Saturday, the news of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee passing the resolution about a strong Lokpal Bill started trickling in amongst the supporters of Anna Hazare at Ramlila Maidan, creating a sense of eager anticipation.

The usually available-for-media volunteers were also huddled backstage, monitoring minute to minute updates on the television set. Kiran Bedi kept going back to her Ipad for the latest news flashes. Finally, at around 8.10 pm, the news was formally communicated to Team Anna over the phone personally by Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Within the next ten minutes, core committee members of Team Anna surrounded the 74-year-old Gandhian to apprise him about the sequence of events and chart out a strategy for the announcement of the formal withdrawal of fast.

Default India erupts in celebration of Anna's victory

From Ramlila Maidan to Ralegan Siddi -- Anna Hazare's village, celebrations at full blast replaced days of protests as the Gandhian broke his fast on Sunday with his supporters marking "people's victory" with dancing, waving of tri-colour and handing out of sweets and flowers.

The festivities, which began on Saturday night after Parliament passed a resolution agreeing in-principle on Hazare's three demands on Lokpal issue, reached a crescendo when the Gandhian accepted a glass of coconut water from a Dalit and a Muslim girl -- Simran and Ikrah -- at 10:20 hours. breaking his 288 hours of fast that began on August 16.

Default Victory of a Common Man

Anna Hazare’s much awaited sip of coconut water and honey made clear an old fact that if we stand united , any victory is possible. People of India , today are celebrating a sense of victory. The hard work, dedication and passion of the youth, the volunteers, the Art of Living folks, the parliament, the doctors, the Delhi police, the media, the netalog, all paid off.

Wearing Gandhi caps and holding the tricolor, hundreds of supporters of the anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare surged on to streets to celebrate the victory of common man. It is the power of common man that made Parliament take a decision on the Jan Lokpal bill which was pending for quite some years. Anna has realized the common man of their powers and this momentum will not die soon. Both houses of Parliament Saturday unanimously adopted a 'sense of the House' on Anna Hazare’s three conditions for an effective Lokpal bill: establishment of Lok Ayuktas in the states, a Citizen’s Charter, and inclusion of the lower bureaucracy in the Lokpal bill. The Parliament’s “resolving” to consider these three factors as key to an effective Lokpal was greeted with celebrations in the country.

I hope this momentum and passion amongst people never die and the same continues even in the future. there are many issues and problems in our country for which we need to stand united. I hope this is just the beginning of the uprising.

Cheers to Anna Hazare and people of India.
